Connecting them to their Families, to their Businesses and Each Other While away from Home
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Nov. 10, 2003 — Global Communication Services (GCS) announced today that it will help bring high-speed wireless capabilities (Wi-Fi) and Internet Access across the United States and Canada. GCS will provide both the network services, management and the equipment necessary to make use of the popular 802.11 wireless technology (commonly referred to as "Wi-Fi") to deliver high-speed Internet access at up to 6,000 locations in the US and Canada.
The agreement also includes other Voice, Video and Data Services that may
ultimately connect people from as many as 40,000 sites including hotels and airports, via various roaming agreements. GCS intends to bring the service to about 250 new locations every quarter. Owners and Operators of these type of locations can add these services to their locations at No Cost. Already, GCS has over 100,000 active accounts under their Slingshot brand and plans connecting approximately 10 sites to its Wi-Fi Network through new agreements which are part of a preliminary rollout with hundreds of locations planned for the beginning of 2004.
To access a connection, the user will need a laptop computer and a
wireless network interface card (NIC) operating in the 802.11x range. Future plans will include offering laptops through selected vendors and a low cost "Slingshot" wireless network cards for those who wish to get connected. Under the new campaign "Wireless and More for 2004" GCS's Wi-Fi services and eventually Voice and Data services will be available under their "Pay as You Go" model. Any person wanting to use the service can purchase online or at one of the merchants an amount they can afford via credit card or cash and spend what they want when they want to and able to manage their own account balance anytime.
According to Scott Smith, Chief Operations Officer for Global Communication Services, "Although many companies have talked about rolling out similar products we actually have everything in place. Our Phoenix data center is connected to multiple networks and internet providers allowing us to provide a fault tolerant, optimized network which provides for the dependability, speed and cost effectiveness which the travel, transportation and hospitality industries require."
GCS recently joined the Wi-Fi Access initiative, a public hot-spot service including airports, hotels and convention centers.
